I want to thank every doctor, surgeon, nurse, technician, therapist, janitor, receptionist, social worker, medical supplier, donator, volunteer, researcher, and all the supporting staff. Without you, my son wouldn’t be here today. You saved his life, forever changing our family, and giving hope and sharing knowledge with others in similar situations. Every single day of my life, of my son’s life, has changed for the better because of you. You’ve changed our family tree, for generations to come. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude, the magnitude of your work, and the effect it has on the world. You are truly a blessing to us all.
Thank you for the long 12+ hour shifts, often sacrificing time with your family to keep others alive. Thank you for your knowledge, dedication, patience, and love. Thank you for teaching me about my son’s equipment, his ever changing needs, how they were being met, and the language used to discuss them. Thank you for involving me in his care, even when the equipment seemed daunting. Thank you for letting me slowly take things over, under a discretely watchful eye, when I was ready. Thank you for helping me feel less helpless.
Thank you for asking what I needed, even before I knew the answer; and then making sure to put it on the schedule when I did. Those simple things, like being able to give him a morning bath, and graduating him to his first crib, meant the world to me in a time when “normalcy” was out the window.
Thank you for celebrating our milestones and providing support during setbacks. Thank you for your company and comradery. Thank you for the little gifts – photos and footprints; and the big ones – hope, love, and caring for our family. Thank you for everything.
To my friends, family, and even complete strangers; thank you for your prayers, support, and welcoming us with open arms. Thank you for listening and allowing me to share our story, updates big and small, and sitting with me when neither of us knew what to say.
Thank you for walking with me. I pray that his story and the medical knowledge gained helps other little ones along the way. Thank you for sharing it with others, and for sending us your comments.
